Sunshine Yellow Jeans
This spring, I have realized I do not have much season appropriate clothing. I am kind of a fall, corduroy, knits and sweaters kind of person, so I have plenty of that kind of thing, but not much for spring.
When I saw this yellow stretch twill on the Fashion Fabric Club site, I thought that a light pair of yellow Ginger Jeans would be just the thing. Every now and then I will peruse the Fashion Fabrics Club site to see what they have. There don't seem to be a whole lot of items that they keep in regular stock, but their prices are good, and you can often get lucky.
I have a lot of pants using the Ginger Jeans pattern (Closet Case Patterns) already. Four pair of jeans, three pair of corduroys, and a pair of red, herringbone twill jeans. I have made a few changes to the pattern over time:
-made the leg straight from the knee down, removing the tapering
-about a 0.5 inch knock knee adjustment
-a 0.5 inch LBA
-raised up the pockets
-put my waistline between the two heights provided in versions A and B
-shifted the inseam to the back by 0.5 inch
In fact, for the main pattern pieces, if I had to go back to the original pattern, it would take me a while just to work in all the changes.
For these, I made an additional change. The fabric is fairly thin, and the pockets were very visible in the front. I went back and unpicked the side seams, shortened the pockets, and put everything back together. I know, it is nice to have usable pockets, and this is a thing that seems to be missing in women's pants often, but here there was a real reason.
Because the fabric is thin, I used white muslin for the pockets. In my stash of zippers, which I buy on Amazon as a random variety of colors, I had a skin colored one, which worked well for this. On my jeans and corduroys, I typically pick out something fun, but there was no room for that here. It would definitely show through.
They work well with neutral colors (grey, black, denim blue), but really seem to grab attention, if not for being awesome, certainly for being bright.
Below are some pictures of me wearing them. Sorry, no pics of the fit from behind, I have a hard enough time getting used to taking and viewing pictures of the front of me.
