NOT PANTS!

NOT PANTS!

I maintain that leggings are not a replacement for pants.  I am pretty vocal about this, probably to the point of annoying everyone who knows me. I don't care what shape or size you are, it isn't about that.

This doesn't mean I don't ever wear leggings, or that I don't like them. They have a place. I wear them with a nice tunic, and I wear them to exercise. And yes, I sometimes wear them to Walmart.

And leggings, when worn to exercise, is a great place to get a little fanciful.

For some reason the idea of leggings with donuts on them stuck in my head in the kind of way that it won't leave until I execute the project. I mean, what is the opposite of exercise? Donuts!

I have made the Sloan Leggings from Hey June Handmade before, using the Sprout Patterns service to be able to pick out prints from Spoonflower.com before, for a nice pair of stained glass print leggings.

While ordering from Sprout includes getting the pattern download for the pattern for future use, I like the idea of being able to pre-line up the print to prevent errors on my end. It also eliminates having to trace the pattern onto medical paper, and cut it out. Everything is done for you.

And since this pattern is stretchy leggings, there is no need for any special adjustments to the pattern, so pre-printed lines on the fabric is fine.

I spent a lot of time scoping out the perfect donut print, and found something that was almost perfect...a nice print with three flavors of donuts. I was advised if you are going to do donuts, you have to do all of them. But the background was white. White leggings?!?!?!

Easy fix (at least it was easy on my end). The other benefit of Spoonflower is that you can contact the designer and ask for a print. So I asked kellygilleran if she could put the print on more of a teal background, similar to her chocolate donut pattern (she has a lot of delicious-looking food prints, you should check it out!). She responded super quick, and I was able to order my leggings and sew them up in no time.

The Sloan pattern is great for this kind of print because it only has the inner leg seam, so the print has minimal interruption.

Last time I made these, I sewed them up on the serger, but I decided to sew these up on the sewing machine before finishing the seam on the serger instead. The bottom seam was done using the cover stitch machine. By some miracle, I had the exact right shade of teal thread in my stash.
